I jumped out of my comfort zone with this couple-hour sketch. The largest paper size I've ever used was 8 x 11. Well, this is 22 x 30 -- befitting the grand scale of the ref photo.
I spent a lot of pastel on this…but the exercise was fun and instructive. It was tough to take a larger photo--with tons of little distracting details and little pastel sticks--and distill it into a cohesive message in terms of value, hue, intensity, form, etc.
